An Origin

The One, an ancient and universal force, drifted through the void and hummed to itself, the noise bringing a spirit, Creativity, into being. The One reared back when it noticed Creativity and let out a new noise which created a second spirit, Curiosity.

The two new spirits explored the void and eventually each made three spirits of their own, working together on the six lesser entities. Story, Song and Dance were the children of Creativity whilst Truth, Knowledge and Wisdom came from Curiosity.

The One looked upon the growing number of spirits when the elder pair returned and unseen to all Anger slipped into the void, the One's unconscious thought manifesting as a dark spirit whose appearance subtly twisted the universe.

Moving on from its initial creations the One turned its attentions to the more controllable physical realm. Calling a world into being and descending to it the One gave the world’s development to three creatures, named Earth, Air and Water, before rising again and using its own light to sustain the emerging globe.

Anger looked upon the new world though with envy and, after following the One to the physical realm, shaped its first child, placing the creature called Fire into the world's core before returning to the void.

With this the world was complete, though Anger was no longer hidden, and the One watched its now harmonious creation start to thrive, already planning with Creativity and Curiosity the beings that would dwell on the globe.

The mortals thus made multiplied across the world but theirs was an existence dictated by their creators, even though a barrier had been drawn between them. They were controllable, as the One desired, and for an age the One and the spirits watched the mortals as they lived and died.

But Anger also looked upon the mortals, excluded from creating his own as punishment for making Fire, and in secret made a new spirit, which Anger named Wrath. Wrath was hurled at the world when the attention of the One was elsewhere and the spirit was diffused by the barrier into a concept that filled the hearts of mortals, introducing chaos to the world.

Creativity and Curiosity looked at the changing globe and summoned the lesser spirits to them before descending to the physical realm. Like Wrath before them the eight spirits became concepts of the heart upon passing through the barrier but this time the One noticed the loss. It wept, the tears becoming the stars in the night sky, and Sorrow emerged, another subtle twist changing the universe.

Sorrow was the second of the dark spirits, like Anger strong enough to journey to the physical realm and back, and both discovered this ability whilst Sorrow was tracking the path of the lost spirits.

Thus it was that Anger descended to the world, intent on twisting the works of its creator, and Sorrow followed, seeking to heal the wounds caused by the elder spirit.
